Itinerary
Today, you have the option to visit either Tarangire National Park or Lake Manyara National Park, depending on the time of year and the safari experience you prefer. Your guide will provide recommendations based on the current conditions and wildlife sightings.
If you choose Tarangire National Park, you'll depart from Arusha after breakfast for the approximately two-hour drive. Along the way, you'll pass bustling Maasai villages and the vast, open plains that epitomize the African landscape.
Alternatively, if you opt for Lake Manyara National Park, you'll also depart from Arusha after breakfast for the two-hour drive. En route, you'll pass through the town of Mto Wa Mbu, known for its vibrant agricultural and fresh produce market, offering a glimpse into local cultures and providing opportunities for souvenir shopping.
We'll kick off the day with an early breakfast, preparing for an exciting day of exploration and adventure ahead! Our journey begins with a scenic drive towards the Serengeti. Along the way, we'll traverse the mist-shrouded rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where fortunate sightings of Cape buffalo, baboons, and even elephants or leopards amidst the dense undergrowth are possible.
Following a delightful lunch at the Serengeti park picnic ground, it's time to delve into the heart of the Serengeti itself. Prepare to witness Africa's iconic savannah landscape and be captivated by the abundance of wildlife roaming these vast grassy plains. As the day draws to a close, we'll enjoy dinner and settle in for an overnight stay amidst the captivating wilderness of the Serengeti.
You'll rise before dawn to embark on a sunrise game drive, seizing the opportunity to witness predators in action amidst the fiery glow of the savannah. This prime time offers a glimpse of lions, leopards, and cheetahs on the prowl, alongside the morning movements of wildebeest, zebra, and other herbivores. Alternatively, consider taking to the skies with a sunrise hot air balloon safari, followed by a champagne breakfast. This once-in-a-lifetime experience can be added to your safari for an additional cost of $550.
After this unforgettable morning adventure, return to your lodge for a late breakfast and refreshments before continuing your journey with a picnic lunch. Your experienced driver will carefully select the optimal route, tailored to maximize your chances of encountering the Serengeti's diverse wildlife.
Day 4
After breakfast, we hit the road again, this time heading back towards the Ngorongoro Crater park. Our journey takes us through the Serengeti via a special route, providing ample opportunities to spot the elusive animals you may have missed on the second day. As far as the eye can see, you'll witness the breathtaking sight of thousands upon thousands of animals in herds - from the majestic wildebeests and migrating zebras to the graceful giraffes, agile antelopes, and powerful African elephants. Not to mention, you'll have the chance to encounter the most revered group of animals: the predators. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of sleek cheetahs, elusive leopards, scavenging hyenas, and, of course, the mighty lion - the king of the savannah. Your day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay either on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.
After breakfast, you'll set off for Ngorongoro Crater, often hailed as the Eighth Wonder of the World. As you catch your first glimpse of this expansive, lush caldera from the panoramic viewpoint, its renowned reputation will become evident. Housing over 120 mammal species, including the legendary Big Five, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area stands as one of the most coveted safari destinations globally. It's a haven for witnessing the endangered Black Rhinoceros indulging in solitary meals on the grassy plains, alongside large hippopotamus populations enjoying the refreshing waters.
The crater boasts an array of predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, as well as abundant wildebeest, zebras, antelope, Cape buffalo, and more. Undoubtedly, it's among Africa's premier safari spots. After a thrilling day, enjoy a picnic lunch by the park's renowned hippo pool before being transferred back to Arusha town.
